February News

Language Arts
We are winding up our Space theme and ready to share our second published story. The improvement in writing skills are impressive! The class has been focusing on reading skills throughout I Love To Read Week. Many of the kids volunteered to do the school's daily announcement for this week's activities.
Our first few T.U.S.C. (Totally Unbelievable Speaking Club) meetings have been a great success!  The kids overcame their initial nervousness and we were impressed by their efforts.  We look forward to the new presentations.  T.U.S.C. meetings will be held every 2 weeks until the end of the year.  Parents are welcome to attend our meetings at any time.

Homework Buck Sale
We will be having our second sale at the beginning of March.  We are selling special privileges such as gum chewing passes, no homework passes, sit with a friend passes and indoor recess passes. There will be novelty pencils, pens, erasers etc. We have a lot of rich kids who were rewarded for the responsibility and organizational skills they have shown in this term.  They really deserve to cash in!

Social Studies
Throughout January and February our focus was China.  Our Chinese New Year celebration was a fun filled day! The class learned about Chinese traditions and enjoyed visiting the activity and craft stations. We ate fortune cookies, rice with chopsticks and received lucky envelopes with a chocolate loonie inside. The Grade 3 classes paraded through the school with our paper dragons to celebrate the new year!

Student-Led Conferences
The online booking for second term conferences is open on the Sansome Conference Manager site.

Room 3-06 will be holding student led conferences on the evening of March 17th, and during the morning of March 18th.  We hope that you will be able to come out and share in your child’s accomplishments.  Each student will have an agenda to follow and will show you their portfolio, work samples, and classroom activities.  Our goal is for you to see the progress your child is making in Grade 3.  After you have examined their work and given them positive feedback, you are encouraged to assist your child in planning a goal to work on in the next term.  Our students have spent time preparing for this sharing session, so we hope you will be able to attend.  Both Ms. Arnason and Mrs. Nuytten will be present to share in this celebration of learning.
